NFL Gamecock Roundup: Gilmore out for the season

-Wednesday has come and gone in the NFL, which means we have our injury report and projections for Week 15's games. The biggest injury news of the week for Gamecock fans is the sad revelation that Stephon Gilmore has been placed on the injured reserve. Gilmore's shoulder popped out during the Bills game against the Texans, and is likely to have surgery to repair a torn labrum, according to FOX Sports.

Alshon Jeffery has been limited in practice, nursing the same calf injury that kept him sidelined earlier this year, but given that the next loss for the Bears will be the nail in the coffin for their season, I could see Alshon not letting this injury sideline him, especially with his expiring contract looming. A GM looking at Alshon can see the talent is magnificent, but Alshon hasn't had a fully-healthy season yet, and with how injury-prone the league is nowadays, there's no telling if he ever will. But damn, can he catch a ball or what?

-Kelcy Quarles' time with the New England Patriots was a short one, as he was released from their practice squad just a day short of two weeks.

-The always-quotable Captain Munnerlyn discussed the high level of contribution that's come from the rookies on the Vikings, praising their ability to meet the high expectations set. “When I was a rookie, they weren’t even expecting me to make the team,” said Munnerlyn, himself a seventh-round pick back in 2009. “These days, when you’re a rookie, they expect you to come in right away and play. You see that around here, especially with the rookies that we got.”

-ESPN just published an article that had every team's beat writer name the best athlete on their respective team, and 49ers reporter Paul Gutierrez named Bruce Ellington his top athlete, alongside linebacker Ahmad Brooks. The really good news was that Ellington was named mostly by this teammates, giving a good impression that Bruce is a valued member of the team, at least by the guys he plays with.
