NFL Gamecock Roundup: Stewart shines again

Today's NFL Gamecocks Roundup includes notes about Darian Stewart, Jadeveon Clowney, D.J. Swearinger and Ronald Patrick.

- Denver Broncos safety Darian Stewart once again made an appearance in the turnover column, snatching a Jamaal Charles fumble in the first quarter of the Broncos come-from-behind win against the Kansas City Chiefs. This time, however, teammate Bradley Roby got the game-sealer, grabbing Charles' second fumble and returning it for a touchdown with nine seconds left on the clock. After forcing seven turnovers in the first two games, Stewart and the Broncos defense are becoming quite dangerous. It's one thing for a team to hit hard or sound tough, but it's another for them to take the ball right out of your hands.

- Keep an eye out for D.J. Swearinger in this Sunday's matchup between D.J.'s Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New Orleans Saints. Starter Major Wright didn't practice on Thursday, usually an indication that the player's status is doubtful or questionable for a Sunday game. This would be Swearinger's first start for the Bucs, who probably should've used him more against the gunslinging Marcus Mariota last week. Swearinger ended up with five tackles in Mariota's coming out party, four of which were solo shots.

- Another cut Gamecock returns to the team that cut him, as Ronald Patrick has just re-joined the Dallas Cowboys via their practice squad. Patrick is now the sixth Gamecock to join an NFL practice squad, just two days removed from Kelcy Quarles joining former teammate Connor Shaw on the Cleveland Browns.

- Jadeveon Clowney spoke briefly about his "homecoming" as the Houston Texans roll into Charlotte to take on the Panthers. Like teammate Johnathan Joseph, Clowney is expecting a lot of family and friends to attend, but he downplayed the notion that there was anything extra special about the game.

"Nah, it's just another game to, uh, play," was Clowney's response when asked about the significance of the game, but he couldn't deny that he was happy for his crew to get the opportunity to see him. “A lot of the guys I hang out with back home, it’s the first time for them to come out so it’s going to be awesome to get those guys to come out and watch me play.”
